SUMMARY:Energy Efficiency Analysis and Optimization for Present and Future
 , Possibly Heterogenous, HPC Systems
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nPay Giesselmann (DKRZ)\n\nThis talk is split
into a summary of the work at DKRZ on the energy efficiency of the present
supercomputer Levante and first insights from testing modular climate sim
ulations on state-of-the-art hardware. A first overview covers job perform
ance monitoring, energy measurement infrastructure and identified tuning o
ptions. Significant improvements on energy efficiency were already deploye
d based on both, systematic benchmarking of characteristic workloads and i
nvestigation of idle node configurations.\nSecondly, first results on anal
yzing the potential of executing functional units of modular simulations o
n their most suitable hardware in a heterogeneous cluster are shown. Modul
es of the climate simulation ICON are first benchmarked individually to be
ultimately coupled again and distributed to their most energy efficient p
latform.\n\nDomain: Climate, Weather, and Earth Sciences, Applied Social S
ciences and Humanities, Engineering\n\nSession Chairs: Jan Frederik Engels
(DKRZ) and William Sawyer (ETH Zurich / CSCS)
