SUMMARY:P23 - FraNetG – Fracture Network Growth
DESCRIPTION:Poster\n\nAlena Kopanicakova (Brown University, Università del
la Svizzera italiana); Edoardo Pezzulli (ETH Zurich); Patrick Zulian (Univ
ersità della Svizzera italiana, UniDistance Suisse); Hardik Kothari, Toby
Simpson, and Maria Nestola (Università della Svizzera italiana); Thomas Dr
iesner (ETH Zurich); and Rolf Krause (Università della Svizzera italiana,
UniDistance Suisse)\n\nThe phase-field method has emerged as a sophisticat
ed technique for simulating crack initiation, propagation, and coalescence
. This approach employs a damage field, termed the phase field, to represe
nt the material's state from intact to fully fractured. The phase-field ap
proach is well known to yield a highly nonlinear and non-convex system of
equations. Therefore, the design of efficient and robust solution methods
to address such challenging systems of equations is of critical importance
. In this poster, we present novel scalable algorithms, preconditioning st
 rategies, and high-performance implementation of a finite-element-based s
olver for the phase-field fracture formulation. We provide novel insights
into fracture-infilling mechanisms of sedimentary layers and illustrate a
geological benchmark for the phase-field community.\n\nSession Chair: Iva
 Kavcic (Met Office)
