SUMMARY:P40 - A Performance-Portable All-Scale Atmospheric Model Framework
DESCRIPTION:Poster\n\nNicolai Krieger (ETH Zurich), Christian Kühnlein (EC
MWF), Stefano Ubbiali (ETH Zurich), Till Ehrengruber (ETH Zurich / CSCS),
Lukas Papritz and Sara Faghih-Naini (ECMWF), Gabriel Vollenweider (ETH Zur
ich), Loïc Maurin (Meteo-France), and Heini Wernli (ETH Zurich)\n\nWe prov
ide an overview of activities and results in the development of a performa
nce-portable atmospheric model for research applications and numerical wea
ther prediction. The model framework considers a full Python implementatio
n with the GT4Py (GridTools for Python) domain-specific library encompassi
ng the non-hydrostatic finite-volume dynamical core and tightly coupled ph
ysical process parametrizations. GT4Py is employed with 3D structured grid
s for regional domains and with horizontally unstructured meshes for globa
l domains. We highlight selected numerical, software and high-performance
aspects of the model, and address the porting of physical parametrizations
. Furthermore, we present results from performance and scalability testing
across different GPU based supercomputers, basic model validation, and ex
citing high-resolution applications in Alpine terrain using the developed
moist large-eddy simulation configuration.\n\nSession Chair: Iva Kavcic (M
 et Office)
